LSAA continues to expand its strategic expertise and political network in the European healthcare sector.
Munich – May 27, 2026 – Christian Pierret, former Secretary of State for Industry in France, was elected on May 22, 2026, as a new member of the board of the Life Sciences Acceleration Alliance e.V. (LSAA), based in Munich. This election reinforces the LSAA’s importance as the voice of investors, corporate leaders, and experts in strengthening Europe’s life sciences ecosystem.
A strategic bridge between policy and innovation
Christian Pierret brings exceptional credentials to the Board, drawing on decades of experience in industrial policy, economic governance, and strategic leadership. As former Secretary of State for Industry (1997-2002) and Minister Delegate for Industry, SMEs, Commerce, Crafts and Consumer Affairs (2002) under Prime Minister Lionel Jospin and President Jacques Chirac, Pierret played a pivotal role in advancing France’s industrial competitiveness and innovation frameworks.
Throughout his career, Pierret has demonstrated a deep commitment to fostering innovation ecosystems. He has previously served on the LSAA Advisory Board and is now transitioning to the Board. He brings with him an extensive network among European policymakers and regulatory decision-makers. His expertise in economic development, coupled with his reputation with key stakeholders across Europe’s political and regulatory spheres, make him a vital connector between venture capital interests and those who shape the regulatory frameworks.
Deep roots in life sciences sector
Beyond his governmental roles, Pierret has remained deeply engaged with the life sciences innovation ecosystem in the EU. He served as Special Advisor to France Biotech and held board positions at several pioneering life sciences companies, including Deinove, Pharnext, and Abivax. Pierret is a qualified attorney and has contributed to strategic dialogue on European innovation policy through numerous publications on socialism, social democracy, and industrial strategy.
A pivotal moment for European Life Sciences
The election comes at a crucial juncture for life sciences innovation in Europe. Pricing pressures on medications across the continent threaten to undermine future research and development investment. LSAA remains committed to advocating for balanced policies that protect intellectual property, ensure fair valuation of innovative medicines, and maintain Europe’s competitive advantage in biotech and healthcare innovation.
Christian Pierret, Board member, LSAA:
“Supporting innovation in life sciences is not merely an economic imperative – it is a fundamental responsibility we bear toward the health and wellbeing of future generations across Europe. The challenges we face today, from regulatory harmonization to sustainable funding models, require a genuine dialogue between those who drive investment and those who shape policy. I am honored to bring my experience and networks to this critical work, and I am committed to ensuring that investors’ voices are heard where decisions about Europe’s biotech future are made.”
Rainer Westermann, Chairman, LSAA:
“Christian will be a great addition to our Board at this transformational moment for life sciences in Europe. His deep understanding of European regulatory frameworks, combined with his proven ability to build consensus among policymakers and industry leaders, is invaluable. His joining our Board reflects the importance of the work we do.”
